Tissue Sterilization Using Allowash XG®

Allowash XG is a patented and proprietary tissue sterilization process that removes greater than 99 percent of bone marrow, lipids and blood elements from the internal bone matrix. Since the introduction of Allowash in 1995, LifeNet Health has delivered over two million allograft bio-implants with no incident of disease transmission in tissues screened and processed by us.

The Allowash XG Process

The Allowash process is multi-faceted. Tissues are recovered in strict aseptic conditions. They are then subjected to serological testing to further control and eliminate incoming bioburden. The allografts are processed and preserved in facilities that minimize or eliminate environmentally induced graft contamination. They are then cleaned with solutions that are forced into and through the bone matrix and directed to waste, resulting in lysis of cells and cleaning of tissues in a process designed to eliminate viruses and bacteria. The final step is sterilization with a controlled and validated dose of gamma irradiation administered at low temperatures after the allograft is packaged.

Effectiveness in Clinical Applications

Clinicians must often strike a balance between utmost tissue safety and greatest tissue efficacy in order to achieve the best possible patient outcome. Allowash XG helps you achieve these goals without compromise. Multiple research studies conducted by LifeNet Health and third-party researchers have demonstrated the Allowash XG process does not adversely affect the biomechanical or biochemical properties of tissues needed for their intended clinical applications.

You can obtain a copy of the white paper that presents the results of these studies. This white paper describes the impact of Allowash XG on soft tissues, human tendons and cortical and cortico-cancellous bone tissue. To view or download a PDF of the white paper, click here.
