Seventh Point awarded for Community Relations Campaign

hermes-statueVirginia Beach, VA – Seventh Point and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) were the recipients of two prestigious awards distributed to professionals in the communications industry for the Battlefield Boulevard Community Relations Campaign. The client and agency were recognized by the Hermes Creative Awards and the Communicator Awards honoring excellence in the creative field.

Over 3,700 entries in 142 categories were submitted to the Hermes Creative Awards competition and Seventh Point was among the 17 percent to receive the Platinum Award. This award was given in the “Community Relations” category for outstanding work in terms of creativity, quality and resourcefulness.

Seventh Point also received the Award of Distinction in the 2009 Communicator Awards for its entry in the “IC2 Business to Consumer” category, bestowed upon projects that surpass standards for quality and achievement. The Communicator Awards competition received over 7,000 entries and was judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts.

“These awards highlight the incredible public outreach campaign the project team incorporated into their program from the start,” said Lauren Hansen, Acting Public Affairs Manager for the Hampton Roads District. “The amount of work that went into informing the public was extraordinary. Every single person on the team deserves recognition for their hands-on approach to public information dissemination.”

Seventh Point was chosen by VDOT in 2005 to manage the project’s public relations, including paid advertising, traditional media relations, electronic media tactics and public speaking initiatives. The campaign has been effective in informing Chesapeake residents, commuters and businesses throughout all stages of the highway reconstruction process.

“It has been our pleasure to witness the amount of progress and success VDOT has had with this project over the last few years,” said Chris Calcagno, President of Seventh Point. “Our agency has a great relationship with VDOT, and I am excited that VDOT and our public relations team were honored by these awards.”

The Virginia Department of Transportation broke ground on the I-64 Battlefield Boulevard project in May 2006. The scope of work encompasses a two-mile stretch of highway, as well as the addition and expansion of five bridges. Upon completion, the existing roadway will be expanded from six to 14 lanes of travel.
